This explains what We Member Me collects, how we use it, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how you can get it back or delete it. We've tried to keep it plain.
1. What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Your account: your email, the name you choose to show, your language and appearance settings, your role in each space, and when you last used the service.
- What you add: memories, photos, recordings and the text made from recordings, comments, tributes, and what you write about family members (names, dates of birth and death, life stories).
- Importing from Instagram or Facebook: the archive you choose is read on your own device and is never uploaded whole. We receive only the posts you select: their words, the date they were posted and their photos. We don't read or receive anything else in the archive, such as your messages, contacts or login history.
- The waiting list: the email, name, intended use and note you give us.
- Technical data: the phones and calendars you connect (only a hashed token and the name you give them), each space's activity log (who did what, never titles or text), and counters used to limit abuse. The counters use a hashed value of your network address that changes every day; we don't store the address itself.
- Reports: the reason you choose, anything you add, and a contact email if you choose to leave one.
- Suggestions: what you write, and a contact email if you choose to leave one on the site.
We have no advertising or analytics trackers, and no third-party code on the site. The location (GPS) inside a photo is removed when you upload it and is never stored.
2. How we use it
- To keep your content and show it only to the people you choose.
- To tell you about things that involve you (being tagged, comments, birthdays and anniversaries).
- To handle reports, keep people safe and prevent abuse.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your content or personal data, we don't sell advertising, and we don't train AI models on your content.
3. Who can see it
You decide who sees each memory: the whole family, only the people tagged, only you, or (if the space allows it) anyone with the link. A space's admins cannot see memories that others have set to private or to tagged people only.
Memories imported from Instagram or Facebook start out visible only to you, and your family is not notified. Nobody else sees one until you change it yourself, one memory at a time.
We don't look through your family's content. We look at a specific item only when someone who can already see it reports it, when the law requires it, or when you ask us to help with a technical problem. Every look after a report is recorded in that space's activity log.
4. Who helps us process it
We use Cloudflare's cloud services to store and process data, including sign-in, the database, file storage, making thumbnails and turning recordings into text. Cloudflare processes it only on our instructions, and it may be processed outside the country where you live.
You sign in with your Google account: Google tells us your email address, so we know who you are. We don't give Google any of your content.
We don't give your data to anyone else unless the law requires it.
6. How long we keep it
- Your content is kept until you delete it.
- Things in the bin are deleted permanently after 30 days.
- Notifications you have read are deleted after 90 days; abuse counters after about a day.
- Waiting-list details are kept until you leave the list, which you can do at any time on the "Leave the waiting list" page.
- Backups are kept for up to 30 days.
- Content kept as evidence in serious cases is kept for as long as the law requires.
7. Your choices and rights
- See and take a copy: use Download on a timeline to save the memories, photos and recordings you can see.
- Correct: change what you wrote and your settings at any time.
- Delete: under Settings → Leave or delete account, you can leave one space or delete your whole account. Your private content is deleted permanently straight away; for memories you shared with the whole family, you choose whether to leave them for the family or delete them too.
- Notifications: you can switch off email notifications in Settings.
You also have the rights the law gives you where you live, such as the rights to access, correct, delete and object under Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and the EU GDPR. To use these rights, or if you are not a user but someone has written about you here, use "Report" in the app or at the bottom of a share link page, choose "Something else" and tell us.
8. Children
The service is for people aged 13 or over; under 18s need a parent or guardian to agree. Families may write memories about their children, but children should not hold accounts themselves.
9. Changes and contact
If this policy changes in an important way, we will tell you in the app at least 30 days beforehand.
For any question or request, use "Report" in the app or at the bottom of a share link page, choose "Something else" and tell us.
